Say “Thank You” to our Military

Posted by Erin (and sometimes The Todd) on Nov 25, 2009 in Charities--what's your passion? Need one?, Free-or Cheap-Family Fun

militaryHow sweet is this?  I used to work in Norfolk, Virginia during the first Gulf conflict, and I developed a huge love and respect for the military families.  I cannot tell you what sacrifices these amazing people make for the rest of us.  Would you like to show the love?

Xerox put together a free program to tell the troops overseas what they mean to us…  ”Let’s Say Thanks”  is an easy way to send a “thank you” card to a serviceperson.   Sneaky inside tip: be sure to add your name, hometown and a personal note.  Don’t worry about being eloquent, sincere is more than good enough!

Amazon.com’s dvd deals today…

Posted by Erin (and sometimes The Todd) on Nov 25, 2009 in Free shipping

hp…The Todd calls this “Mauve Wednesday” deals…retailers just don’t want to wait until Black Friday this year.  Frankly, if you’re getting dvd’s or bluray anywhere but Amazon, you’re losing money.  I pre-ordered “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” and a Wiggles dvd yesterday.  I used my trial Amazon Prime, so the Wiggles dvd arrives today, shipped free.  They also knocked $5.00 off the price…so that cost me $2.99.   Pre-ordering Harry Potter knocked  the price from $25.99 down to $9.99!  Yow!

Here’s today’s specials:

Babycenter

I found BabyCenter when The Todd and I were pregnant with the twins.  They’d send me updates every week about how the babies were developing, what to expect next, etc.  There were coupons, all kinds of resources, and a forum for moms of multiples where I made friends that I treasure and talk to this day.  There’s groups of every kind to share your joy and excitement with. (And anxiety and stress, of course!)  You expecting or know someone who is? BabyCenter’s about to become your new best friend.  Just click on the cute belly-kissing baby at the top of the post.  It’s all free and there for the taking!

Do your holiday shopping in your jammies…

Posted by Erin (and sometimes The Todd) on Nov 23, 2009 in Free shipping, Resources

jammiesSister, I’m here for you when it comes to Black Friday.  I will have a complete list by time of all the screaming deals at each store.  But after my assigned radio appearances are done that morning, I will run home and hide. I’m a firm believer in shopping in my jammies at my computer, the way God intended!

If you’re like me, and if you haven’t signed up for Amazon Prime, do it now! You’ll get FREE 2 day shipping on all eligible orders.  Amazon.com is offering a FREE one month trial and you can set up your account to auto-cancel the free trial after the trial period is over!  Sneaky inside tip:  to set this up, just sign up for the one month trial, click on the “Your Account” tab, then click on “Manage Prime Membership” and finally click on “More Order Actions”. After getting to this step, you should see a spot to select that says to not upgrade the Prime Membership automatically and your free trial will be set to end after the period is over.

I have to keep a list right by the computer to remind myself about cancellations–it’ll be nice not to have to worry about this one!

Thanks, It’s Hip2Save!

Making Money For The Holidays

Posted by Erin (and sometimes The Todd) on Nov 21, 2009 in Resources

I stumbled across Unique Rewards last week and tried it out before posting it here.  It’s an easy one to start up, and the surveys are quick–some of these site have 35 minute surveys to make 50 cents–not a good use of your time!  I’ve been thinking a lot about what kind of return we’re getting on effort.  If you have to spend an hour to make 50 cents on a survey…you’re actually losing money because that time could have been spent more profitably.  I’m going to be focusing more with you in coming weeks on the best use of our most precious resource–time.

4 Books for 4 Bucks!

Posted by Erin (and sometimes The Todd) on Nov 21, 2009 in Unfiled Stuff

I’m a huge fan of books as gifts–there’s nothing like the pleasure of cracking open a nice fresh book that was picked especially for you!   Quality Paperback Books is offering 4 books for a dollar each…and no tiresome automatic shipments.  Pick what you want, nothing else will show up in the mail!  This could knock another 4 people off your list and give you some affordable book options for the rest of the year!
