Zhu Zhu Pets Still Available

Posted by Erin (and sometimes The Todd) on Dec 23, 2009 in Unfiled Stuff

zhu zhuWalmart’s promising that there will be Zhu Zhu Pets this morning starting at 7am at all Walmart stores for $8.00.  Based on what I’ve seen on EBay, this is a dynamite price.  Toys R’ Us also swears up and down that they’re restocking the little robotic fellas today and tomorrow, but no promises on how many per store.  I’d call ahead first.

No new bargains today. I suck.

Posted by Erin (and sometimes The Todd) on Dec 22, 2009 in Activist Mom

bellringerI’m sorry, we spent a very fufilling (and frostbitten) morning on a street corner ringing the bell for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Challenge.  Despite two layers of long underwear, half a pack of Sudafed for my cold and my Ugg boots, it took me ’till about 3pm to warm up.  Just to completely shame me, a sweet man driving a delivery truck for a local foodbank drove up, took the coat and gloves he was wearing and put them in the donation pile.  I am utterly humbled.  Thank you all who contributed…so much.

PS: Killer bargains tomorrow and where to get last-minute Zhu Zhu pets!

Now, we need to ask for YOUR help…

Posted by Erin (and sometimes The Todd) on Dec 21, 2009 in Activist Mom, Charities--what's your passion? Need one?, Free-or Cheap-Family Fun

momandchildI’ve never seen a more generous group of people than the Budget Girlies.  You’re the ones making up the gift baskets for the shelters, finding out who needs you in your neighborhood.  To you, I say, bravo.

Here along the Wasatch Front, donations to the Salvation Army have dropped like a rock–30% at last count.  Conversely, pleas for assistance have jumped 35% this year.  The Salvation Army prides itself on being the last place to land when little families slip through the cracks.

Tuesday morning (12.22) we’ll be hosting “The Red Kettle Challenge” from 5am to 9am, doing our morning radio show live to raise $10,000.00 in financial and material donations for the Salvation Army’s family shelters.  If you can stop by, we’ll be at the Maverick on 600 South and 200 West in Salt Lake City–you can drop off cash, swipe a debit or credit card, or donate warm coats, boots, gloves, underwear, hygiene items and TOYS in clean and good condition for these sweet families.  (Editor’s note: it goes without saying that diapers, sizes 4, 5, and 6 are always desperately needed.)

If you’re out of the area or can’t make it down, you can donate to the Online Red Kettle here.     There’s so many people working 3 or 4 jobs, struggling silently who would never dream of asking for help.  The Salvation Army will make sure they’re not forgotten.  Thank you!

Insanely good deals at Toys R’ Us!

Posted by Erin (and sometimes The Todd) on Dec 20, 2009 in Unfiled Stuff

xmas_gThere’s piles of $5.00 off coupons for diapers, wipes and formula.  Children and infant’s outerwear are 50% off!  Mind you, these are for Rewards members, but you can quickly sign up online on in the store.  Coupon Dad has kindly provided the ad circular here.   These deals are good through Thursday, 12.24.

One of the things I appreciate most about Toys R’ Us is their effort to focus on children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.  There’s a new study out from the CDC showing that a galactic one in 70 boys will be diagnosed on the Spectrum.  The Autism Moms I know are goddesses–every one on them.  There’s a special gift guide for these little sweeties here from Toys R’ Us.

Sigh.  Fortunately, Photoworks is stepping up to the plate with a BOGO free photo calendar offer to finish my shopping and put me back in the will.  Sign up here to get your calendars in time for Christmas.

Seriously, don’t waste this opportunity.  You’re shopping like never before for the holidays.  Sign up with Nielsen today and get paid or it!  This is the Gold Standard of all the consumer options I can give you.  I hear the form is shorter than when I applied (three times!) for it. Sign up here, good luck!

Tired of fighting for that last 90% off sweater?

Posted by Erin (and sometimes The Todd) on Dec 17, 2009 in Resources

saleI love all the discount stores that offer obscenely good deals…but what I don’t like is the fact that you have to keep haunting them and sorting though piles of dross to get that one treasure.  I just found “Beyond The Rack,” and it’s glorious!  My girlie Steff turned me on to it when she picked up a Dolce & Gabana purse for 90% off!

Beyond the Rack is a private shopping club for designer brands at prices between 50% and 70% off retail. Beyond the Rack works with major brands to hold limited-time sales that are open exclusively to their members. By joining you’ll have access to the broadest range of the world’s top designer brands like Dolce & Gabana, Ed Hardy, and Cynthia Steffe. Once you’ve joined you’ll be notified by email in advance of each upcoming sale. In addition to shopping with Beyond the Rack, you can receive credits to use by joining, participating in sweepstakes and simply by inviting your friends to join the club.

Sooo, you’re still getting what you want, but you can sit at home and scroll through the goodies insteadof getting nailed in the ribs by the shopper next to you who wants that Reindeer sweater you’re holding.  Clever, eh?  You can sign up here, or just take a look.  I haven’t gotten any spam with signing up for this so far, just the shopping updates as promised.
