Help For Those In Haiti

Posted by Erin (and sometimes The Todd) on Jan 13, 2010 in Activist Mom, Charities--what's your passion? Need one?

haitiWe’ve all been heartsick as we watched the video stream of despair and destruction come post-earthquake from Haiti yesterday.  Everyone wants to help–but after we spoke to the Director of International Relief from the Red Cross today, he emphasised that financial donations are the most useful thing.  There’s already several fraudulent “charity” appeals running.  The one text option that I can clarify as legitimate is the State Department’s appeal to text “Haiti” to 90999.  This will bill $10.00 to your account, you will be texted back to ask if you agree, and the money will go directly to the Red Cross relief efforts.  You can also donate online at www.redcross.org  I’ll be lighting a candle for these amazing and courageous people tonight…we hope you’ll send love and good wishes in whatever way you choose.

$39.00 Flight Sale At Southwest Airlines

Posted by Erin (and sometimes The Todd) on Jan 13, 2010 in Resources

airplanesHot on the heels today from an announcement by several major airlines–including Delta and Continental–that they’re hiking baggage fees again  (Editor’s note: $25 for the first bag and $35 for the second, can you believe it?)  Southwest Airlines kicked off a Spring  Flight Sale–fares as low as $39.00 (one way) with 14 days advance booking.  Plus, no baggage fees!  Go here to check rates.

Update: just got off the phone with Southwest Customer Service and they said the $39.00 fares are mostly gone.  There are still several fare options I’m seeing as low as $51.00 (one way).  Take a look and see what works for you–and remember, no baggage fees…
