50% off at JoAnn’s!
If you’re thinking about creating Valentine’s gifts and cards this year instead of buying them, this is a good time to get started. (Editor’s note: well, at least if you’re a slacker like me, this is a good time to get started–if you actually want to hand them out by Arbor Day. )
There’s a couple of excellent resources that you can download for free: The E Book on “Knitting Crafts” has several patterns for really cute Sock Monkeys and other sweet little creatures. Download that here.
There’s also a “Kichen Crafts” E Book that has simple patterns and crafts you can create with your little ones, and there’s some clever ideas there for gifts that wouldn’t take too long to make. I liked the painting projects, and there’s some really cute kitchen gifties my twins are making for their teacher. Download that here.

Nothing says “love” like the warm, yeasty goodness of a Krispy Kreme doughnut–that is, if you can avoid eating them long enough to actually hand them over. Here’s a good idea: Buy a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts and you’ll receive 12 Valentine’s Cards, each have a coupon on them for a free-bee doughnut! Now, everyone’s happy!

Hey, It’s Your Birthday!
Be sure to check our Birthday Free-Bees section as we approach your special day. There’s a pile of retailers and restaurant types who want to party with you, who knew? Hey, It’s Free! has one of the most comprehensive lists I’ve seen. Happy Birthday!
(Editor’s note: I used to deal with record label people a lot…there was one guy named Norm who’d always hawk the label’s latest release and then say, “you know, I like to give presents for yer birthday. ” Meaningful pause. “And it could be yer birthday every day!” Since that’s not how I added records to our station playlist, it was never my birthday with Norm. Of course…I’m not the one in prison right now, either.)

I just wanted to comment on going to restaurants on your birthday…Just remember when you get a free meal or discount on your birthday to remember to tip your server on what the bill would be without the discount or free meal..they have to pay taxes on the gratuity (in most states) whether you tip them or not. And they do the same amount of work for a lesser bill SO BE FAIR!!!!!!!!!!
SUCH a good point! For those of us who have made their living in the restaurant business, it’s crucial. Remember that your server WILL be taxed on your tab–whether you tip or not.
